Ever since the modern plague descended upon us in 2020 I’ve put one aspect of my photography on the back burner, namely analog photography. It wasn’t an intentional choice in any way, in fact it was something that dawned on me several months into it. “Tomas, you’re not shooting your old film cameras…is that something we want to change?” It turned out that, nope I was fine with letting them and my rolls of film in the fridge be for the time being. Of course I didn’t think we’d still be in pandemic mode (sort of) at the start of 2023, I figured we’d be back to normal long ago!
However I actually HAVE shot a couple of rolls between February 2020 and today and here I’m sharing images from one roll I finished in the camera during the fall of 2022 and recently developed in the photo club darkroom. These were all shot in the Pildamm Park in Malmö, Sweden during an analog photography class that I was hosting, and while they’re no masterpieces I do like the relaxed vibe in them. They were shot with a Canon 650 camera and a 50 mm 1.8 lens on Ilford’s 400 speed HP5+ film, and then developed in Rodinal 1:25.
I recently looked at the film stash in my fridge and it turns out I have quite a lot of film there that I should probably use up at some point. I am actually glad that I have a fair bit of it left because I’ve heard rumblings about SUBSTANTIAL price hikes on film in the not too distant future, hikes that make it almost questionable to shoot film in the long run… I hope that isn’t the case, but it’s good to know that with my analog frequency lately I am set up for quite some time, film roll wise!
