The forecast was for a Saturday of potential sunshine, so given that November often is about as dark and dreary as it can be here in southern Sweden I decided to head into central Malmö to enjoy the streets for a few hours in good (hopefully anyway) light, fit for some street photography.
What I didn’t consider though was how many people had decided on the exact same idea - to make the most of the few hours of sunshine and shadows! The streets were very crowded which made for slightly tricky street photography. There seems to be a goldilocks zone of just enough people out and about to make for enjoyable and/or interesting street photography - too few and there’s not enough potential subjects, too many and it’s difficult to isolate individual subjects.
This day was more of the latter, because I found myself having to discard quite a few shots where people had walked into my framed up subjects. They had every right to do so of course, the city’s streets are free and are not MY photo studio, but at times it was a little bit frustrating. Still, the amount of daylight we got and the reprieve from the darkness…it made everything worth it in the end!
