This part of the year usually means a lull in my photography; the weather is often just gray, gray, gray and the short hours of daylight makes tricky to get out there at all with a camera. So inspiration and urge to get out there (or update this blog for that matter) is often not just there. It’s my “winter blues” period I suppose. That tends to happen even when the weather is unusually mild like this year (“thanks” to global warming I suppose).
I’ve also been without my Fujifilm XT-3 for just over three weeks, due to a malfunction with the memory card slot. It’s fixed now though (at no cost, since it was still under warranty) so I can get back to shooting with it. Yay! It also feels like daylight is beginning to return to us here in the far north…at long last!
So, since the weather looked at least somewhat okay and I had my camera back I decided to go to the forests around Skrylle outside Lund, Sweden (a frequently visited place for me over the years), with the intent to get some shots for my photo club’s upcoming “Forest Magic” exhibition. The images are all supposed to be in black and white so I set the film simulation in the camera to Acros and went out among the trees.
When I came home and looked at them in Lightroom I realized most of them actually looked better in color, so in post I changed them from the monochrome Acros preset to the rather vivid Velvia instead. It takes a certain mood to shoot good forest pictures in black and white and I don’t think I was attuned to that during this particular walk. I am not too worried or disappointed; I’m sure I will find a good selection for the exhibition, either before the deadline or among my archived images.
