Tap, tap, tap…is this thing still on? Mic check…mic check…hello! I guess it still works. Good! It has been a loooooong time since I did anything with this blog of mine, and I think I will chalk that up to the whole 2020 experience. But since today is the last day of this “annus horribilis” (to quote the Queen) I figured an update is not a bad idea.
The last post I uploaded on this little “podium” of mine was in July when my dad and I went to see the ancient stone ship at Ale Stenar not too far away from here, but after that my whole inspiration to post stuff online went out the window. The whole social distancing thing we’ve been very good at maintaining in the family (so far so good at least...fingers crossed and all that) crept into my urge to do blog posts, making me think “what is the whole point of posting online anyway?” and that is not a good position to start writing and posting stuff from. Better just to abstain in that case I think.
But...it does seem pretty pointless to have a blog section on your website if you never update it...so in 2021 I will get back to posting on the blog, about photo outings I do and other things that I find interesting enough that I want to share it with other people. I am not making any promises that it will be a weekly posting schedule like I used to have for quite a while, but it will most definitely be updated more frequently than this year (that’s not such a big stretch, but still…)!
One thing that I have been able to do this year, even with Covid-19 restrictions and limitations, is to complete my 365 project for this year. I am pretty pleased with that I must admit, perhaps especially this year, given the way the type of photography that I do had to change. I’ve almost completely stopped doing the kind of street photography I did a lot of before…since other people can be dangerous right now. That change isn’t necessarily a bad thing though, because it made me upload slightly different pictures from my previous 365 projects; much more nature and landscape pictures and less people pictures. A little variety is good...right? Right?
I do hope my 2021 project year (because I am gonna keep it going at least another year to make it 5 successful years) will have more street and travel photography in it...at least by summer when the vaccine scheme is more in full swing and other people aren’t potentially dangerous. I’m not in any of the prioritized categories so it will most likely be a good while before I get it, but by the time summer rolls in I hope that things will have begun to move towards normality and people don’t have to be so afraid of each other!
The photos in this blog post are a mixed selection of photos taken with the Hasselblad XPan II (on Ilford HP5 film) that I was graciously allowed to borrow from a fellow photo club member this year. While it didn’t turn out to be a dream camera for me (and a potential investment in the distant future) it was fun to try out this highly unusual camera and format and challenge how I see and frame my photographs!
Here’s to more challenges to how I see my photographs in 2021, making for interesting content!
